
WIPO's Global Innovation Index has become an important policy document for measuring the technology and IP registration achievements of innovative enterprises among the Organisation's member states. The 2019 GII recorded a marked slow-down in research an development expenditure in the traditional high performing, driving global technology innovation. The study also captured increased protectionism in IP intensive industries. Despite protectionism and falling R&D expenditure, the usual high performers Switzerland, Sweden and the United states remained among the top 10. Read the index results below.
